Flash Interview vs Truffle: One-Time Fee vs Monthly Credit Pool

Truffle is a newer entrant in AI candidate screening that bundles resume matching with one-way video interviews under a single monthly credit pool. It's a reasonable option if you're screening several roles every month and want one subscription to cover all of them — but it's a subscription, and the credits get consumed by more than just interviews, which changes the real per-candidate cost compared to Flash Interview's flat, one-time fee.

What Truffle actually charges

Per Truffle's own pricing page: every plan bills monthly (or annually at a discount) for a pool of credits, and a completed video interview costs 5 credits per candidate. The Starter plan is $49/month for 200 credits — at 5 credits per interview, that's roughly 40 interviews a month, but only if none of those credits go to resume screening or candidate matching, which the same pool also pays for. Truffle's own copy estimates Starter covers "1-2 roles monthly," not 40 candidates on one role. Higher tiers (Core at $99-119/month, Team at $199-239/month, Scale at $499-599/month) scale the credit pool up, not the per-interview cost — every tier uses the same 5-credits-per-interview rate.

What that means once you're actually screening

Because credits are shared across resume matching and video interviews, a role that gets a lot of applicants eats into the same pool a video-heavy round would need. There's also no way to buy exactly what one role needs — you're committed to a monthly plan sized for ongoing volume, not a single hiring round. Unused credits on the Core plan do roll over (up to 12 months), which softens this if you keep paying every month, but the subscription itself doesn't stop.

What Flash Interview is

Flash Interview charges $39 per role, once — covering up to 50 candidate invites for that role, however long it stays open, with no shared credit pool and no monthly bill to keep paying once the role is filled or closed.

Which one to pick

  • Choose Truffle if you're hiring continuously across multiple open roles every month and want AI-assisted resume screening bundled with video interviews in one recurring plan.
  • Choose Flash Interview if you're filling one role at a time, don't want a shared credit pool that resume screening and video interviews both draw from, and would rather pay once per role than keep a subscription running.

The takeaway

Truffle's credit-pool model works well for teams hiring at volume across several roles a month, but the 5-credits-per-interview rate is shared with resume screening, so the "40 interviews a month" headline number on Starter rarely holds up once you're actually using the plan. Flash Interview's $39 is still a flat, one-time charge per role with no pool to manage and no subscription to cancel. See Flash Interview's $39-per-role pricing →

Frequently asked questions

Does Truffle offer a free trial?

Yes — 7 days and 30 credits, no credit card required, per Truffle's own pricing page. At 5 credits per completed interview, that's enough to test a handful of candidates before the trial credits run out.

How much does Truffle cost per interview?

Each completed video interview costs 5 credits. On the $49/month Starter plan (200 credits), that's a notional ~40 interviews, but the same credit pool also pays for resume screening, so the real number of interviews you get depends on how much resume matching you also run.

Does Flash Interview have recurring billing like Truffle?

No. Flash Interview charges $39 once per role with no credit pool and no monthly subscription — the fee covers that role, however long it's open, up to 50 candidate invites.

Which is cheaper for screening a single role?

For a single role with up to 50 candidates, Flash Interview's flat $39 is cheaper than committing to any of Truffle's monthly plans, since Truffle's cheapest tier ($49/month) already costs more than Flash Interview's one-time fee before you've screened a single candidate.
